As seen in the 2026 KS2 SATs Reading Paper
'Warm-hearted and funny, this is a marvellous mix of righteous indignation and madcap race against time' - The Guardian.
'A warm-hearted, funny, madcap adventure . . . this book is going to get kids very fired up about science' -- Robin Stevens, author of the Murder Most Unladylike series.
Since it was published in July 2017, The Matilda Effect has gone on to great things. It has so far been reviewed in The Guardian, The Big Issue, The Sunday Express and even on French TV! It has sold over 110,000 copies in China alone! I am absolutely thrilled by its reception and I love receiving messages from people all around the world who have enjoyed reading it.
During Lockdown in 2020, I received a message from a grandmother in Yorkshire who read the book over FaceTime with her granddaughters in Santiago, Chile each night, and appreciated the story as a means to feel closer to them at a time when we couldn't be with others. (I don't mind admitting I cried when I read that email!!)
The book is fantastic for use in schools (KS2) as it deals with the themes of STEM, particularly women in STEM, Inventors, and The Nobel Prizes, along with core values of perseverance, resilience and courage.
It has, to date, been published in France, South Korea, Russia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Turkey and China.
